Vintage Sewing Machine: Possess an Ageless Legacy
Growing up, I often hear the whir of my Granny’s antique sewing machine. Though it seemed awfully ancient, it was attractive and pleasing. My grandmother revealed that she got the sewing machine from her Aunt who trained her how to use the equipment. Everyday, she constantly appeared to have sewing projects ranging from pillows and drapes to clothes. Sometimes, I would also observe my mother give granny’s antique sewing machine a whirl. Together, they created several gorgeous designs that I have always treasured until this day.
When my parents passed away, I inherited practically everything including my dear grandmother’s wonderful vintage singer sewing machine. I was so amazed at how gorgeous it still appears. And the most amazing thing about it is that it works perfectly although slow. Thankfully, my mother had a gift for keeping things undamaged and preserved.
One day while I was browsing the web, I came across a photo of the antique sewing machines similar to the one I inherited from my grandmother. It turns out that I possess an antique sewing machine from Singer. The specific model that I have was called The Family or more prominently known as The Turtleback. A uncommon piece, the Turtleback has been sought after by lots of antique collectors who are eager to give top dollar for it. Because of my unforeseen discovery, I adored my antique sewing machine even more. Eventually I got passionate into researching more information about various antique sewing machines that made a mark in the textile industry as well as in the lives of millions of households. By then my fascination for these beautiful machines grew and I started collecting earlier models of sewing machines as well.
After many swap meets, classified ads, and online auctions later, I have acquired several antique sewing machines that are truly the envy of most antique collectors. What’s so wonderful about my acquisitions are that they are for the most part in perfect shape. Though some of them could do with a bit of maintenance, my antique sewing machines appear delightful.
