# Know your skin type. This is important because there are different skin care products for all the varying skin types.

# Keep your body hydrated. This means drinking plenty of water every day. Follow this simple tip and your skin will show a definite improvement.

# Regular cleansing. Use lukewarm water to wash your face twice a day to clean all the dirt and grime.

# Be gentle. Avoid excessive scrubbing and try not to exfoliate too hard. Also take care not to overdo the creams and lotions.

# Use a moisturizer

regularly. Do not let your skin become dry because dryness causes the outer layer of your skin to break, leading to a rough and unattractive appearance. Use a moisturizer daily.

# Avoid the sun. # Keep away from strong sunlight. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is when the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays are strongest.

# Sunscreen is essential. Sunscreens are rated according to a sun protection factor (SPF), which ranges from 2 to 30 or higher. A higher number means longer, stronger protection. Buy products with an SPF of 15 or higher. Also look for products with a label that says: broad spectrum (protects against both UVA and UVB rays) and water resistant (stays on longer, even if you get wet or sweat). Reapply the lotion as needed.

# Wear appropriate clothes. Protect yourself from the sun with a broad brimmed hat that shades your neck as well as your head. Protect your arms and legs with long sleeved shirts and pants. Make sure your sunglasses are the most effective variety.

# Steer clear of artificial tanning. Do not use sunlamps, tanning beds, tanning pills, or tanning makeup. Tanning pills have a color additive that turns your skin orange after you take them. The FDA has not approved this for tanning the skin. Tanning make-up products will not protect your skin from the sun.

# Check your skin often. Because excessive exposure to the sun can

cause skin cancer, you need to be aware of any changes in

birthmarks, moles or spots. If you notice any alteration in size, color or shape you should seek medical advice.
