Tips on Giving a Wedding Toast
On the things he should keep in mind about wedding toast is that it’s nothing like wedding speech. A toast is a short concise statement or basically a wish were getting to the two people who are getting married. Of course both a speech and a toast tells is performed in public and in front of people, and that very fact and make you feel scared, nervous and jittery. So I needed some pointers on how to give a wedding toast for my best friend’s upcoming wedding.
I should know. I was recently a best man to my best friends Kevin’s wedding. And I stressed over the wedding toast for weeks on end. I asked my dad, who has been best man three times in his life. I also asked my friend Steve Moore who is a public speaker by trade. I asked him for tips and advice on how to be funny, serious, and just be sincere at the same time. He gave me some good advice. He told me to that in public speaking or during a wedding preparation is the key. I think that it has to be brief and short. By brief, I mean it has to last less than a minute. Because for sixty seconds, during a wedding reception, is actually a long time.
Another hint that he gave me is to use famous quotes and anecdoates in wedding toast by famous people. This way I can sound smart without being so. Another way is to give a wedding toast in a humorous way. Look up some of your favorite comedians, and I am sure that they have some skits or routine regarding weddings. Pick some of the material and applied to your own voice. Nothing can fix a case of nerves than having people laugh at your jokes. Then just go there and do it, stop thinking about it and have fun. Remember it is not your wedding, it is theirs.
