Things You Should do While You Are in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a beautiful city whose interesting culture and rich history make it a fascinating place to spend your vacation. When you stroll along the streets and look at the canals, architecture, and look out at the ocean you will feel like you are a million miles away from your daily life.

One of the things you will see while you are roaming the streets of Amsterdam is that the city is full of cafes. These cafes are an excellent place to stop and get some authentic Dutch food.

You won’t have to worry about being bored while you’re staying in Amsterdam. There are plenty of fun ways that you can occupy your time, specially when planning last minute accommodation in Amsterdam.

Dam Square

Directly in the busiest part of Amsterdam is the original location of the Amstel Dam. Now the location is called Dam Square. The significance of this space is that it was once used as the town square. Dam Square also happens to be the same spot where Louis Napoleon was crowned in 1808.

Anne Frank’s Home

When she kept a diary about her experiences while she and her family was hiding from the Nazis during the Second World War, Ann Frank wrote herself a place in history. What you might now remember is that her home was located in Amsterdam. The old home is a favorite tourist attraction. Not only will you be able to get a sense of her life, you will also be able to get a look at her actual diary which is kept in the original home.

Anne Frank’s home is close to the square.

Festivals

Amsterdam is host to several festivals. If you plan your vacation for June you can attend the Holland Festival, which runs for three weeks and is the countries biggest art festival. If you are going to be in Amsterdam in July and August you will be able to participate in the Vondelpark Summer Festival.

The Art

It is a well accepted fact that Amsterdam has always been the place to go if you want to see some truly magnificent works of art. No trip to Amsterdam is complete unless you have gone to see the art that is kept at the Rijkmuseum, and no trip to the Rijkmuseum is complete until you have take the time to look at the Rembrandt.

After you have taken a look at the Rembrandt you should wander over to visit the Van Gogh Museum. You will never have an opportunity to see a larger collection of Van Gogh’s work.

Shoe Shopping

You might not think that you need to add a pair of wooden clogs to your shoe collection, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t at least try a few pairs on. You might even find out that you like the way they feel.
