The Harry Potter books and films have a big group of followers in many countries

I am always fascinated by the tremendous global popularity of the Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter novels were written by the English author J.K. Rowling. She was given birth to on 31 July 1965. Her complete name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the short form J.K. Rowling because initially her publishing company considered it was a helpful move not to show the fact that she is a woman. The publishing house thought it might have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody instantly recognizes that the author was a woman. Consequently, instead of using her first name she used two initials. As she has no middle name she picked Kathleen as basis for the K. in her alias. Kathleen is the name of her fathers mother.

The first Harry Potter story – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was released in 1997 in the United Kingdom. Very interesting is the matter that only one thousand pieces of the first story were printed at that time. The original title of the book was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the novel was publicized to the American market in the year 1998, it was released as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

After that J.K. invented some additional Harry Potter books. Finally the Harry Potter series is made of seven books. These are:

  • Novel 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Novel 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Novel 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Novel 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Novel 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Novel 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Novel 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter novels have been translated into more than 55 languages and have been published in a lot of countries. Besides the tremendous success in the US and Great Britain, Harry Potter is also quite liked in European countries. The Harry Potter stories have been released to German readers under these headers:

I must admit that I did not have the time to read all the novels. But there are readers who know them all, which is very impressive and is part of the tremendous success.
