The B Vitamin Niacin Can Lower Cholesterol

The third B vitamin to be discovered was niacing this is why it is referred to as B3. It is essentially found in meat, wheat germ, dairy products, and yeast. It is used to treat and prevent a lack of natural niacin in the body, and to lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Niacin was first described or discussed by Hugo Weidel in 1873 in his studies of nicotine.

Niacin is involved in both DNA repair, and the production of androgenic hormones in the adrenal gland. Niacin is a water-soluble vitamin which prevents the deficiency disease pellagra. It can cause certain side effects, such as flushing (warmth, itching, redness, or tingly feeling under your skin). non-flush niacin is available for those who wish to avoid the discomforts of regular niacin.

Extensive evidence combining known biochemical functions of vitamin B3, controlled trials, and clinical observations indicate that doses of niacin above the recommended daily allowance will speed wound healing and help the immune system fight off viral infections especially in those who are deficient.

In conclusion, B3 Niacin is available over the counter (OTC) and with a prescription under many different brand names. Niacin at extremely high doses can have life-threatening acute toxic reactions. Niacin overdose symptoms may include nausea, dizziness, itching, vomiting, upset stomach, and flushing. Niacin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby so mothers who are nursing should use niacin with caution. Flush free niacin and regular niacin is available at your local or internet health food store and is relatively inexpensive in price.
