Growing Bonsai Trees As A Pastime Is Rewarding
Growing bonsai is an absorbing and extremely rewarding pastime. Growing bonsai trees is not an expensive pastime with not many tools needed. A bonsai tree is a true living sculpture that anyone would be proud to have.
Bonsai are pot grown trees that are specifically grown to be a smaller version of the full size plant or tree. Bonsai can be grown from nearly any perennial wood stemmed trees or shrubs that grow branches, and is able to develop small through container confinement with the help of crown and root pruning.
Bonsai can be grown from seed, young shoots lifted from the countryside (please have regard for any laws in respect of taking wild plants in your region), or can be purchased as ready grown bonsai trees. Obviously growing bonsai from seed is the slowest method, but you do then have total control of how your bonsai will grow.
Bonsai are planted in special containers that not only restrict the roots, but are also designed to harmonize the appearance of the bonsai tree. Specialist growing compounds are available that will give you the ideal environment for your bonsai tree to grow.
Many specialist techniques are employed to shape your bonsai tree and give it a unique character. These specialist techniques include trimming leaves, wiring, grafting, short term dwarfing and deadwood, (a method of aging bark). Only a few special tools are required to shape bonsai, and these are readily available for little cost. Everything you require to start growing bonsai can easily be bought from a bonsai nursery.
If you are wondering if growing bonsai is for you, I say give it a try, bonsai trees are easy to grow, and take a small amount of your time, every bonsai is unique, and who does not admire a bonsai.
Bonsai are available as both indoor and outdoor types, some bonsai are best if left outdoors in the summer and then brought inside during the winter.
And for those that like the idea, but doesn’t want to maintain bonsai, you can even purchase artificial bonsai trees.
