Algarve Temperature and Climate Info
The Algarve temperature is generally quite warm throughout the year and the Algarve enjoys lots of sunshine. There is hardly any rainfall in the Algarve in the summer with what rain there is falling for the most part in the winter. The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. It has an area of 5,412 square kilometres with approximately 410,000 permanent inhabitants, and incorporates 16 municipalities.
The Temperature in Albufeira in January and February ranges between 9 and 16 degrees celcius and in June and July average temperatures are within the range of 18 and 28 degrees celcius. There are 6 hours of sunshine per day in December and January and this increases peaking at 12 hours in July.
In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.
The average temperature in Lagos in March and April ranges between 9 and 19 degrees celcius and in May and June it increases to between 13 and 25 degrees. Since 1960, the city has embraced tourism, which has become its most important economic activity. It has beautiful beaches, good climate, the sea, a scenic coastline, and historical patrimony. It also has plenty of cultural and night-life entertainment venues. Many local traditions are celebrated, ranging from architecture to gastronomy and handicrafts.
